Card 7: Your First Week on the Job

Congratulations, you got the job! The first week is your opportunity to make a great impression and set yourself up for success. A strong start is like laying a solid foundation for a new house.

1. Listen, Observe, and Learn

Story: Your primary goal in the first week is to be a sponge. Absorb as much information as you can. Listen more than you speak. Understand the company culture and how your team works.

Analogy: When you move to a new village, you don't start telling people how to do things. You first watch, listen, and learn the local customs. Do the same at your new job.

2. Get to Know Your Colleagues

Story: Introduce yourself to your teammates. Be friendly, polite, and show that you are happy to be there. Ask them about their roles and how you can work together.

Analogy: Building good relationships with your new neighbors makes life in the village more pleasant and productive for everyone. The same is true for your work colleagues.

3. Clarify Expectations

Story: Make sure you have a clear understanding of your role and what your manager expects you to achieve in your first month. It's okay to ask, "What are the most important things for me to focus on this week?"

Analogy: A farmer must know exactly which fields they are responsible for planting. A new employee must know exactly what their main responsibilities are.

4. Be Proactive and Enthusiastic

Story: Show your enthusiasm for the job. If you finish a task, don't just sit and wait. Ask your manager or a teammate if there is anything else you can help with. Take notes during meetings.

Tip: A simple "I'm excited to be here and eager to contribute" can make a very positive impression.
